Blackwater Community School hosts "Family Literacy Nights" frequently (once a month) to enhance not oly the Parental Involvement but also we are relentlessly pursuing to help increase the Literacy among our community, we serve. We have been getting very positive response from the parents and guardians for which we are very grateful and appreciative. Our next "Family Literacy" event is scheduled on September 7th, 2017 from 5:30pm till 7:00pm for NYCP Grant based preschool. We also distribute Reading books free of cost for children during these events.
Blackwater Community School /Akimel O'Otham Pee Posh Charter offers a wide-variety of academic and Extra-Curricular programs to all its enrolled students. School is in its second year of receiving 21st CCLC grant funding thru the BIE to provide academic enrichment and remediation programs to all eligible students. Besides 21st CCLC funding, School also receives Tribal Allocation (TA)for certain programs as approved by the Gila River Indian Community Council by Tribal Resolution. Some of the Programs offered under the TA funding include Students Council, Gardening and Farming, Teaching of Tribal Native Language & Culture, Cheer Leaders, Physical education, and Student Color Guards programs. We are very grateful to the Tribal council for providing much needed resources and funds to make these activities available to all our students.
As you may know our School is a hybrid school running two schools in one physical campus meaning our K-3 programs run under the BIE whereas 4-5 grade levels operate under the Arizona State Charter Board. All Non-ISEP eligible students fall under either the K-2 or 3-5 Akimel O'Otham Pee Posh Charter School inc.
